A composite of all the patient’s symptoms becomes the basis for the diagnosis. This means the treatment plan is specific for each person. Treatment will address the whole person- both the root of the problem and the current symptoms. What to expect during your first visit First I listen carefully to learn all I can about the patient’s ailment. This is followed by taking an in-depth written health history. I have the patient lie down on a comfortable massage table. It’s preferable to wear loose, comfortable clothing. In most instances, removing clothing is unnecessary. The treatment involves using sterile, hair-thin needles. Many patients don’t feel the needles at all; some feel only a slight discomfort with initial insertion that disappears within a few seconds. The needles are left in for 15-45 minutes during which the patient relaxes and sometimes falls asleep. When the treatment is completed, I gently remove the needles and discuss additional treatment strategies, use of herbs and whether more treatments are warranted. The patient leaves feeling relaxed and pleased that the body is beginning to heal itself naturally.
